The Taj Mahal, located on the south bank of the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agras, is considered one of the Wonders of the World because it is one of the most splendid universally admired masterpieces of architecture in the world. The building is a symbol of love, commissioned in 1632 by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The tomb is the centrepiece of a 42-acre complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall. The Taj Mahal is visited by 7-8 million people each year.
