The Great Barrier Reef, located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia, is one of the seven Wonders of the world because it is the largest coral reef system and the largest living structure in the world. It is composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometres, larger than the Great Wall of China and the only living thing on earth visible from space. Comprising beautiful coral reefs, unspoiled islands and sandy coral cays, it provides protective homes for thousands of sea creatures. Approximately two million people visit the Great Barrier Reef each year.
