The European Eel is a strange being and little is known about its life cycle. It is most likely born in the Sargasso Sea and the larvae travel for 300 days to get to Europe. There it metamorphs and lives in fresh or brackish water for up to 20 years. When mature it travels back to the Sargasso Sea to reproduce.
